Sally Squire

Sally Squire’s work is an emotional expression of self through abstract forms modeled in clay. The malleability of the material and physicality of working the forms have provide her a way of channeling her creativity. She explains that, unlike other medium such as painting, there is no object or barrier between her and her composition. I should state that the categorization of her work as abstract acts only as aid in describing a non-figurative aesthetic. She is not concerned with conceptual abstract principles but in the communication of something that can not be put into words. The act of creation is indivisible from the finished work as the finished work is the embodiment of that spirit.

In the past decade, porcelain has become a critical component in her artworks and visual expression. She is inspired nature, pattern, and repetition. She views the world in sculptural terms, exploring form as a language. Her manipulation of the clay to create sensual curves and crests resonates with a rhythm that reflects her knowledge and passion for music, architecture, harmony, and color.
